Matthew is a postdoctoral fellow at SEAS. He received his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington, where he combined applied math tools with computational-neuroscience-inspired measures to shed light on the behavior of artificial neural networks (ANNs). He is interested in leveraging normative models to better understand brain computation and organization. Of particular interest are the areas where standard principles of brain organization (structural and functional modularity, selectivity, etc.) haven’t found a fully satisfying role to play in ANN models.
